Digital revolution has forced many organizations to make hard and painful adjustments including retraining. It is no longer business as usual for Records Managers whose role is fast changing to that of Information Governance. Need to understand the techniques of handling records/ information in today’s digital age is continuously gaining interest particularly to brand of professionals who know inwardly Information governance is the next in thing.
Yes, it has come several years earlier than expected.
When I first qualified as Records Manager in the early 90’s the area of information management looked and felt like a strange ground. Coming from a developing country meant that there wasn’t so much information to manage….. so it thought.
My first assignment was to work as a tutor in a National Polytechnic to produce more records managers for our young nation. My constant worry was that there did not seem to be employers (organisations) ready to take up our diploma graduates.
Of course, information was being generated in government as well private organisations. Yes, it was being generated in volumes but in different format i.e DIGITAL.
